  1. Allen the not-so-wise says:

    Ohhh! A gay Peyton Place!

  2. ... says:

Because being gay is something you cannot even think of living with or being near but a pedophile alone in his room with an underage girl is perfectly acceptable. Yeah. Makes perfect sense.

    • Devil's Advocate says:

But Nate ISNT a pedophile. He insists on waiting for her to be of proper age.

      • WhoTookThatty says:

You’re just playing devil’s advocate, obviously, but it’s a good idea to nip this in the bud:

He fantasizes about her and still would have fucked her. He is attracted to a minor.
        He’s law-abiding, but that’s all.
Even if it’s not strictly pedophilia, it is still incredibly creepy and questionable.
Being gay, however, is absolutely fine. Surprised no one has chastised
        So, yeah. PERFECT SENSE!

The fact that no one’s pointed out how terrible Steve is makes one think that the rest of the cast has some homophobia (or an utter lack of a spine) as well.

        • Reading Comprehension says:

The reason nobody really talks about Steve’s homophobia is because it is blatantly not serious in any way.

        • CCX says:

Also, it’s not pedophilia, period. By definition, pedophilia is attraction towards prepubescent children, and Rose is definitely NOT prepubescent. The word you’re looking for is ephebophilia, and furthermore that specifically refers to a PREFERENCE for teenagers over adults, not merely having been attracted to one or two along the way and not acting on it. (This shouldn’t really be surprising, because people reach physical maturity at different rates and girls have a tendency to reach it sooner than guys do, which will occasionally lead to a minor looking very mature.)

Also, as pointed out before, 18 isn’t the age of consent everywhere; in fact, 16 is the age of consent in 30 of the 50 states and Washington D.C., and it’s even lower in some countries (though you’re still bound by the laws of your place of residence, so an American can’t take a 15-year-old to Mexico and legally bang her even though the age of consent in most Mexican provinces is 13 or 14 and can be as low as 12.) It’s really just a matter of perception.
