#0 – Prologue

Is a supermarket considered an upgrade from a convenience store?  It does have “super” in the name, after all.

Welcome to Treading Ground! This was my first comic, and for some reason it didn’t come out perfect when I first tried to do it! Crazy, right?

The comic above is something I did for a Free Comic Book Day sampler in 2007. If you think that’s old, the rest of this comic actually started in 2003! So get ready for some rough art. It’ll get better, sort of.

Transcript

Panel 1: Outside view of Zippy Mart.
Panel 2: Outside view of door with, “Employees Only,” sign.
Panel 3: A man and woman with strong resemblance to Nate, the man is rubbing up against the woman from behind and has his hand underneath her apron.
Woman: “Are you sure we should be doing this here?”
Man: “Mm-hmm.”

Panel 4: Headshot angle of the couple in the previous panel. Woman: “I mean, if something were to happen… well, what kind of future would a kid have if he was conceived in the back room of a Zippy Mart?”
Man: “Ha ha, true.”

Panel 5: Narration box top left corner, “22 years later…”
Nate standing behind cash register desk in uniform with nametag, white-haired elderly customer in front of desk.
Nate: “Hello, do you have your Food Baron MVP card today?”
